What social life?
Heh. Having lunch with a friend today, I asked her casually what her weekend plans were. She tossed off a half-dozen activities, including conflicting party invitations on Saturday and two things she couldn't do because of training for her new job over the weekend. She then asked me if I was going to one of the parties... which I hadn't heard about, even though it was close by and I knew the person hosting. I answered no... and her response was, "well, you're sort of a B-list person anyway." It was a bit deflating... at least the rest of lunch was nice otherwise. And I can't really complain... with three kids and a non-poly spouse, I'm probably lucky to get invited to anything, even on the "B-list."
(grin) easy to laugh at myself in that context, rather than get insecure... although the juxtaposition was a bit ironic. My friend's busy weekend contrasts with mine... Pat's off to a weekend retreat, so I'm home alone for three days with the kids (case in point :-) and probably won't get to talk to another adult until Sunday night when Pat returns. Grumble, grumble... maybe I'll drop off the kids with a sitter Saturday and go find a bar or coffee house to hang out in. Whatever. What social life? A disadvantage of having LDRs...
Enough kvetching. Otherwise, home life is a bit of a standoff again, just like in August. Today I finally sat down and composed a "position description" for a hypothetical live-in or lifepartner. Covering personal attributes and behaviors, and organized as required vs. merely attractive aspects. It is intended to help in negotiations with Pat (over our respective needs, and our relationship agreement) but, who knows, it could be useful in other future contexts. Maybe I'll post it here or on AP and ask for flam^H^H^Heedback. Except that while getting advice on missing things "what about communication styles? Or nonsmoking?" would be quite useful, I'm worried that such a list of desired qualities could be misinterpreted (as a personals ad-equivalent or something).
Work is quiet this week, mostly bits and pieces left undone after the huge drilling push leading to last week's meeting at JPL. Another drilling proposal is in the works, this time working with the Canadians with field testing at Haughton Crater next summer.
