satin and wax seals...

Friday night... off the airplane and off to dinner with [profile] patgreene at Left at Albuquerque. Saturday was spent at Ikea with [personal profile] tenacious_snail, then at Kevin's Little League playoff game. Then I went with Les to [profile] pusifoot and [profile] _counterculture's wedding reception, and saw lots of the same people who were at the housewarming last week, including the bride and groom. I wore my white dinner jacket with a burgundy bow tie, and was arguably overdressed... but what the heck, I own lots of formalwear and may as well use it. Had a pleasant conversation with [personal profile] lysana and [profile] blackfyr, first time I'd seen them in a couple of years. Explained poly to one of the groom's guests. Then back with [personal profile] tenacious_snail overnight.

Today... pancakes for breakfast. :) Mmmm. Then home to get the kids, and off to church (without [profile] patgreene, who was doubled over with cramps after inadvertently taking a double dose of antibiotics last night). No social plans... instead, I've removed the toilet in the main bathroom, trying to repair a leak, and am taking a break before I get my hands mucky again ;). Then perhaps work with Kevin on his science fair project.

dark and light

Today was dirty and dusty and wet at times... but I have some sense of accomplishment. As well as egg-size bruises on my shins and feeling tired. But the main bathroom's toilet is back and isn't leaking anymore, and I have bright and shiny new cabinet lights in place.

The former problem could be traced to a broken flange, and corroded bolts, so there was effectively nothing besides gravity holding it in place. I installed a metal reinforcement plate, new bronze bolts and a extra-thick wax gasket, and that seemed to do it.

The latter... I installed LED strings as interior lights in the hanging glass cabinet, and halogen under-cabinet lights in a stainless light bar. I think it looks quite spiffy. :)
