a white carnation
I'm in Washington now... well, actually the Ritz-Carlton in Tyson's Corner, looking out over suburban Virginia. I just checked in and showered, and I'm about to head off to Greenbelt for a day of reviewing Earth Sciences IT proposals.
Yesterday evening was kind of fun... I was made an Associate Fellow of AIAA at their Aerospace Sciences meeting in Reno. The numbers are limited to no more than 200 annually, out of a society membership of 35,000+. The food (filet and salmon) was actually quite good, I renewed several acquaintences and spent an hour lobbying Tony Gross about our new air traffic proposal ;-). I got pinned (silver, Fellows get gold ones), a white carnation pinned in my lapel, and a diploma-like certificate (which is being mailed).
Then I rushed back to the airport for my red-eye flight overnight to Washington-Dulles. I was able to sleep 3-4 hours, which is close to what I usually get at home. There's precious little in the way of food service at IAD, though... (grumble).
Anyway, off to work.

Wow, that's the second white carnation you've received in the past month... Maybe more are in your future?
