Finally got my laptop this evening, forwarded from SFO airport lounge (I had left it on a desk, in my hurry to make the flight... I was just too spacey then). I'm using a wireless modem card while sitting Monday evening on the shinkansen (bullet train) somewhere between Tokyo and Kyoto. More updates as I can catch up...
