Off for another field season...

BofA screwed up my government travel card payment last week and applied it to someone else's account (again!) so my card didn't work when I tried to use it this morning at SFO. My own checking account showed zero funds, so I couldn't get money from personal accounts. So I transfered money online with my laptop in Seattle, and hope that my card works by tomorrow. I had to get the Varscona hotel desk to call it in.

My rented gravity meter is *still* being held in Canadian customs in Ottawa... I emailed forms to a customs brokerage once I got to Seattle, but they say that the boxes won't be released in time for Saturday's flight to Resolute. Sigh. $350/week is being wasted...

At least I got a haircut in Seattle, by taking a shuttle to a nearby hotel and going to their salon... who had a fill-in stylist, without tools. He scrounged and found a painfully dull set of shears and a small portable razor like I use for beard trims... despite this, he did an acceptable job. And a lovely elderly lady next to me on the airplane (Yvonne) talked to me about family and giving to others and opened my eyes a bit on what's truly important to me.

In Edmonton... Immigration Canada flagged me at passport control and I was sent to a separate office to explain exactly what kind of work I'd be doing... but happily [personal profile] handslive and [personal profile] purplejavatroll were waiting outside of Customs. Yay! It was great to see them both, after nearly a year.

After stopping by Home Depot ("Canada's Home Improvement Center" - not Alberta's...) I bought three more drill bits for the ice. Then checked in, then went to The Three Musketeers for crepes, where [profile] mouseman was waiting for us. Having missed lunch altogether, I was peckish. The food was quite good, dessert was excellent, the company even better. And it was fun to watch [profile] mouseman and [personal profile] purplejavatroll being TCFW together on the other side of the table :-).

Now I'm back in the hotel, waiting to go to my 11:30am flight tomorrow to Yellowknife. It is currently 38F with cold rain and wind in Resolute, but should be clearer and colder tomorrow evening.
