From a note to myself, made early Monday morning (about the time Rose was going to bed :-)...
Looking out the window of a NW 757, just after takeoff this morning? it is foggy below and dark. There is high overcast above. To the east over Livermore red light dawns though the cloud-crack between the overcast above and the fog below. It is stunningly beautiful, a sharp band of intense reds and oranges and pinks across the middle of the sky.
Sort of like the "eye" depicted in the Lord of the Rings movie, but with more color complexity, and without the malevolence (and rotated ninety degrees).
Followed minutes later by complete darkness, then blazing white light coming in over the cloudtops, through the window. Time to count blessings...
