New computer!
Jan. 23rd, 2002 02:08 pm(grin) Just arrived on my doorstep, so to speak... a Mac G4 titanium Powerbook, with 1GB RAM, a 48MB drive, Airport, and a SuperDrive combination DVD/CD-ROM burner. Now it is finally worth updating my other Apples from 8.X to 10...
Completely forgotten was contemplating a name... and we use static IP addresses in the office, so I have to register *something*.arc.nasa.gov before I can play with it online. Work-related... launch vehicle health monitoring (nurturing?) or Mars drilling automation (mining? wildcatting?) or impact crater geophysics (earth-crossing asteroids?)... hmmm...

Jan. 23rd, 2002 10:52 pmYesterday was a poly poker night over at L's house, lots of amusement (my big winnings -- about $1.20 in pennies :-).
Tonight was my skating lesson night. Our regular teacher was gone... but our substitute was great! An advanced skater... the best male skater, probably, either at Palo Alto or Redwood City. And a good teacher and coach, giving praise and encouragement as we fumbled through our forward 3-turns and mohawks. I'm doing OK going left, but my right maneuvers are poor. Forward inside and outside edges are coming along, as are lunges and shoot-the-duck... I'm better at the next-level stuff than current. \
After class, our teacher went out in the by-then-empty main rink, and dazzled me... he hit a couple of triples, with great form and transitions. It doesn't hurt that he's in his early 20s, sinewy and lithe and handsome... he's also raising funds to go to competitions (and pay coaches).
Now, if I could just find someone to help me get started with rollerblades...
