Back again...
After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.1 from 8.6. And getting the compatible, Carbon-ized Phoenix LJ client. (grin)
Like an idiot, however, I blithely used my old backup utility (Retrospect 2.0) to archive sylvester's disk contents, then reformatted and did a clean OS installation. Well and good, except that now the ancient utility is unable to send commands to my Jaz drive. Probably an incompatibility with the new device drivers. So I can't restore anything until I can buy or borrow an up-to-date copy of Retrospect, next week. So any downloaded e-mail (up until yesterday) is out of reach, so don't take it personally if I'm slow to respond.
But mail now works for new messages :-). And it is a bit of a mind-warp to have a terminal window running on a Mac...
