MV Parade, PPP prep
Apr. 27th, 2002 02:13 pmMy local town in Silicon Valley (Mountain View) is celebrating its centennial next autumn... but every spring the city holds a parade. An old-fashioned sort, replete with fire engines, dog training schools, and youth athletic leagues. But with an ethnic twist... in the staging area, we had an American Legion float next to Kevin's T-ball team next to the Brazilian cultural group. Who were in Carnival drag, folks in G-strings, body paint, beads and elaborate masks with their own drummers. (grin)
It was rather amusing, not just watching the milling clumps of Girl Scouts and clowns and antique Ford owners, but watching the reactions of the mostly-male Little League coaches to the undulating Brazilian women -- when their spouses were there, and when they thought that they were unobserved. The kids wandered all over the road -- proverbial herding of cats. But we made it to the end of the parade without losing anyone, and just *being* in a parade was fun! :-D
Now... I had planned to go over to San Leandro and help the party folks haul refuse, but they're done and don't want/need any more volunteers. So it's boring here... time to fold laundry or buy groceries. Make some chocolate-chip brownies to carry to the potluck, now that I have time to burn... tonight will be interesting, in terms of how to gauge which persons and amoeba-groups will be welcoming vs. indifferent vs. preferring to be left alone. And J will be coming, albeit with a different sweetie. We will see each other there for the first time since our rough patch began in March. Wish me luck... (wry grin).
