The plane, the plane... at work we have the Marine Reserve bringing up a C-130 from Texas on Monday, to haul the Humvee, trailer, greenhouse, and bulk supplies up to Resolute in preparation for this year's field season. So I pitched in and having met my deadlines this week, spent most of yesterday getting various permissions, forms, property transfer documents, and general bureaucratic details addressed. Alongside of L and Pascal and the SETI Institute folks doing likewise. [livejournal.com profile] hopeforyou got her O2 and monitor... but an incorrect root password. The ATV hardware designers resolved a mini-crisis when we suddenly discovered that one designer was placing the panoramic camera 15 cm to the left of everyone else's designs... just before the drawings went to the machine shop.

After a end-of-season pizza party for James's Little League team (he nearly didn't play this year, then led his team in batting average and RBI), I joined [livejournal.com profile] sinboy, [livejournal.com profile] lysana and Bob in Mountain View over dinner and drinks... first in a pub (nice draft cider...) then across the street at a Mediterranean place with a quiet granite bar (better Irish coffee...). Bob and [livejournal.com profile] lysana had several amusing SF con anecdotes! I'm getting a better understanding of the "party floor" dynamic, and con economics...

Today: shopping, then Little League closing ceremonies, a birthday party for James, an end-of-year BBQ for David's team (Whisman Park in Mtn. View), and something cuddly with Pat in the evening. Tomorrow: church (James will be an acolyte for the 1st time), possibly get my hair cut, an evening cook-out at L's house.

Kids are bathed and in bed, Pat's not feeling well and is likewise, and I have nothing to do. Even my POP email server is down, and no one is active on AIM (not surprising at 9pm on Saturday...). Kvetch.

(stares at woodgrain panelling)

Meanwhile, various friends of mine are probably having a great time at one of several parties this evening (momentary toe-dip in self-pity ;-)... one of the downsides of being married-with-children -- lots of social acceptance for the role, but not much of a social life (outside of kid-related-activities).
