Near things

Today a well-known SF author (Greg Benford) and another UC Irvine scientist were hanging around the Center for Mars Exploration offices at work... he listened in on a discussion that [personal profile] hopeforyou and I had regarding next year's human vs. robotic exploration research. Benford was apparently here to gather background on Gusev Crater on Mars, which we think is a likely paleolake.

I'll take it

My boss this evening sent me an email asking for the dates I arrived and left Resolute this summer, running the human vs. rover field tests. NASA is retroactively awarding AR and myself hazardous-duty pay for the time spent in the Arctic! I'll take it... (grin).
