I'm slowly crawling out of my hole again after a week spent offline. After last weekend's anniversary trip, I spent the next four days (until last night) working on my kitchen, with Nancy. Renovated cabinets were sprayed with Zolatone, electrical and plumbing were finished and passed inspection, the old cabinet was removed, insulation was installed, new concrete-board walls cut and installed, 1st "new" cabinet installed, underlayment and more concrete-board laid down, cut-out and screwed, the scavenged stainless-steel countertop was glued down, new stainless sink installed, new faucet installed, scavenged 2-year-old dishwasher installed, 2nd "new" cabinet put in (each cabinet requires an hour or so of repeated lifting and shimming until it is level), outlets installed, 2nd countertop installed, and tools put away. By the time I took Nancy to the airport yesterday, I was incoherent, exhausted and spacey. But it is in... still needs some touch-up painting over the weekend.
All of this because we needed more counter space and new kitchen fixtures, but were too broke to be able to afford to hire a contractor or tradesman. Or new cabinetry, or stainless. But at some personal physical and emotional cost... at least it was fun to work with Nancy on a focussed project.
