jay: (contemplative)
A beautiful, clear and cool Friday. And the annoying TV crews are gone... they've been filming the lab across from my office for two days. This lab has the Personal Satellite Assistant testbed, a small spherical robot akin to the floating torture device in the original Star Wars movie (except that the PSA is painted white, lacks the protruding needles, and crashes loudly into the wall on random days). Out of politeness, the British producer today asked me and [personal profile] hopeforyou what projects we were doing, and seemed mildly interested in the Mars drilling machines.

Otherwise... I'm back in the saddle, so to speak, with the first teleconference of my new project (Drill Automation for Mars Exploration, or DAME... perhaps appropriately, since I'm the only non-female working on it here ;). I'm good at running meetings. We end on time, we stay on track, and everyone gets a chance. And it's *my* agenda, my show... something satisfying about that, after being in a supporting role on other projects lately. We had folks from NYC, NASA-Ames and at JPL participating today.

Then a lovely lunch at [personal profile] dawnd's favorite restaurant (non-farmed salmon!) with the usual pleasant company, a tiny jolt and then back to work to slog through travel vouchers and order lab equipment.
