In Atlanta
Dec. 22nd, 2003 04:52 pmWell, in Austell... Cobb County, out in the western suburbs. My parent's house, which has been extensively remodelled since I was last year. It hardly looks like my childhood home anymore, but it is well-done.
The trip yesterday was OK...
housedreamland very sweetly picked up our van from SFO and will drop it later in Mountain View. The flight was completely full, and in the middle seat between James and I was a prim, cranky elderly woman... so I gave her my aisle seat and settled in next to James.
patgreene had Kevin and David 3 rows behind, but at least the Dramamine kept them relatively quiet. Our rental car is a huge full-size Ford sedan, with wide leather bench seats... 20 years ago, I could have thought of other uses for these, but now I just hope it keeps the kids' elbows and knees apart.
Work today was downtown at Georgia Tech, which continues to take over midtown Atlanta, having crossed I-75/85 and colonized the east side with its own new academic buildings and a hotel and shopping center, shades of Stanford. I met with SH, discussed our new automated drilling project, ran a telecon from the local FAX machine handset, had excellent Indian food for lunch, figured out the shaft per-segment instrumentation, and met SH's postdoc and grad students. Some of the multichannel A/D equipment was new when I was a grad student in the same lab!
Tonight... back to my family reunion ( my brother and sister are here, too)as I've ducked out long enough ;-).
