unfamiliar, but not
Jan. 11th, 2005 08:36 amAwoken this morning by... thunder and lightning! I unconsciously recognized it, decided that the frequency and storm intensity wasn't likely to accompany a tornado, and rolled over without really waking... until the kids came in. Then was consciously surprised ;).
Yesterday and last night I spent working on my latest geophysics paper, bringing together 5 years of observations and measurements at Haughton Crater. I have some new data -- SD (intern) is going to add it to the database and print some new contour plots this morning. She gets co-authorship, as well. I'm also going to send out a 700-word abstract with just the new gravity data and analysis to the LPSC conference (March, in Houston).
Car-wise... the guy selling me the black 1994 convertible talked to me on the phone, and was apologetic. The car is having its catalytic converters replaced in order to meet smog testing requirements (it failed in September, and hasn't been driven much in the past year, perhaps 300 miles total). And... someone in his apartment complex heard that he was selling, and tried to break in over the weekend, cutting the top in an attempt to get to the MP3 player. Which is still there because the car alarm scared off the amateur thief, but now the seller has to replace the top before closing the sale. I've put down an initial 15% deposit, but nothing more until these mechanical issues are resolved. And I'll need to find someplace midway between here and Richmond to meet the guy and sign the papers.
As far as my old blue Mustang convertible goes, the insurance company will let me keep it if I drop off a check today for the salvage value. The first prospective buyer (Julie) has been contacted and will probably get the car next weekend, otherwise I'll go down the rest of the list.
