Nobody tells me what to do... not least some officious woman with a bullhorn in the drop-off area of Kevin's school.

I had to (a) drop him off instead of him riding the bus, because of a school project, and (b) take the Mustang, because the van is still in the shop. Kevin can't manage the seat release levers in the back. So I stopped the car, got out, flipped forward my seat, took his project and backpack and helped him out, standing as a shield from any oncoming traffic.

Said martinet comes up... " you can't do that! Kevin must be let out on the passenger side, it isn't safe to let him out from that door!" I'm the judge of safety conditions where my child is concerned, and the principal or parent volunteer or whomever can just go do unpleasant obscene things to herself, as far as I'm concerned. After shouting back and forth, I persisted in bringing Kevin around to the sidewalk and thence off to class with his project. The woman with the horn glared. I glared back.

If she can quote a school board regulation or the California Vehicle Code citing a requirement for right-side child egress, then fine, otherwise, I'll decide how I'm getting my kids out of the car... I don't take directions (from anyone) that don't have some legal backing...

Adding to today's minor nuisances... I went to the infirmary at work for a scheduled baseline treadmill EKG, part of my physical from last month. 10am... I changed, signed the release, waited by the equipment for the physician. Then was hustled across the hall when they brought in an emergency patient with pain in his chest, the poor fellow was groaning. They told me later that he was OK... but after spending an hour in my shorts, dozing in the room across the hall, I was finally sent away and rescheduled for March 4.

Now, off to Berkeley for an all-day drilling meeting... at least [personal profile] hopeforyou showed me an excellent coffee place in downtown Mountain View (Global Blends, near Amici's and within 100 feet of a Starbucks) after I picked her up at the train station.
