reconnection
Apr. 21st, 2005 01:41 amAt work today, we met on the same floor of the same building where I used to work (and had a private office overlooking the Mall...). It felt familiar... like I used to do when I worked there, I went across the street to the Air and Space Museum to have lunch in their cafeteria, looking at a spacesuits exhibit after eating. There were lots of families and kids... wondering 10-year-olds looking up at capsules and airplanes, talking excitedly. I wanted to tell them "don't lose that enthusiasm or your dreams!"... connecting with my own inner 10-year-old. It's why I love my work... I'm still just like those kids, really.
Even back in the meeting at the FAA after lunch, reshaping the air traffic system's future data infrastructure... took the Metro back to my car, then took a wrong turn and wound up driving up surface streets parallel to the river. I stopped briefly at Glen Echo... out of sentiment, I wanted to see the carousel horses. It is something that
patgreene and I were fond of doing on weekends, when we lived in the area. But I was disappointed, the carousel is closed for restoration and lead abatement. Still, driving along the river was lovely, with dogwoods and purple-blossomed trees in bloom.
Tonight, I had a lovely time with
geekchick... we had a really good evening. We had a lot of good sharing and talk, enjoyed a Celtic rock group (Tempest), and each other's company and touch. It was reaffirming and reconnecting... one nice thing about ongoing LDRs is that it is possible to have the reassuring well-known stable part, overlaid during face-to-face visits with temporary resumption of gaga NRE-like feelings. (grin) And I really liked her suggestions of live music for the evening. =)
