Headed southward
Jul. 30th, 2005 12:19 pmYesterday was hectic... four of us (myself, Pascal, Jeff and Patrick) rode into the crater. It was beautiful and stark and... muddy. At one point, all four ATVs were stuck. We did a lot of hard work, alone miles from any assistance, finally rolling the ATVs over upside down to extricate them. Ourselves in knee-depth mud.
We couldn't get into the Haughton River valley -- it was impassable. So I missed that repeat reading, but got all of my others and am overall pleased. Then returned to camp in time to hurriedly throw things in bags before the plane to Resolute.
After two weeks in the field, I just want to borrow a friend's hot tub and soak for, say, an hour when I get home... the shower here still felt great, and it was nice to have clean underwear again,
All of the air cargo is dispatched, except for some hand-carried specimens that Jeff is bringing to Edmonton tonight (
purplejavatroll has gotten some dry ice, and
mouseman will meet us with it at the airport tonight... I'm grateful for their help).
Still have the hundred-kilometer stare... Resolute seems busy and crowded, now.
