I'm frustrated and a bit down. While today's online interactions (or lack thereof, in some cases) has left me feeling a bit down and withdrawn, the day just didn't go well.

We were delayed getting out to the drill site by an earlier-than-expected aircraft arrival. Then went out, put up the drill, laid out electrical and data cables and began integrating and testing the project hardware and software. We drilled through the PVC casing down to the permafrost below. I went back to base camp to retrieve SH, who had arrived on the earlier airplane... waited... waited, as he was in the medical tent. Turns out he was there just having coffee with the MD and we could have left 45 min sooner. I was just too polite, waiting outside.

Arriving back to find a software impasse... two laptops with different software could no longer communicate. The rest of the team sat and waited for a couple of hours while the two people involved tried to debug... even trying to consult [personal profile] dangerpudding over the radio (bad idea, it was dinner and the radio was on speaker). Eventually I called a halt for the day, and they brought the machines back to try to debug offline. Hopefully we won't be too delayed in the morning. Dinner was chicken and... brussels sprouts. Er. I went back to the comms tent and snacked on chocolate squares that I'd gotten from [personal profile] dawnd.

And things aren't going well at home, and various folks are either sending me angst or fluff or just not responding much... at the same time, I'm lonely and tired and sore and cold and a bit down. Probably whiny-sounding, sheesh. Not a good day, other than the weather. And getting to talk to newbies about the formation of the hydrothermal vents near the fallback breccia...
