Home for the weekend
Oct. 27th, 2007 03:58 pmI'm home for the weekend, returning to Pasadena on Monday morning. After the week's frustrations, once we actually started drilling we made rapid progress and finished the week on schedule, by Friday lunchtime. I'm still a bit concerned about hard-material recovery not being well-suited to the way the JPL folks are building the simulant columns (with soft sand or simulant under a granite tile, tending to fall away and leaving the tile unsupported, which then cracks when we drill downward into it), but the software is still doing the correct things under the circumstances it finds.
Yesterday afternoon I wandered around Pasadena with
dangerpudding, as our flight wasn't until 6pm. Even following her into Sephora (a cosmetics shop... would never see me there otherwise ;) as well as Macy's and such.
OTOH, on the way to Burbank airport... a fender-bender (I tried to pull around a line of cars stuck in a construction lane closure, didn't swing out far enough) with the rental car. NASA has full LDW converages, but I don't know how to process the other party -- in 20 years of business travel, this was my first accident of any sort.
Today... haircut, watch kids... can't take them out, as it turns out that Kevin's toe is broken, not just sprained, and he has to stay off of it as much as reasonably possible. And
patgreene has various errands and social events she's attending today/tonight, which I can't complain about -- after my India business trip and then HAI workshop earlier this month left her here. I don't generally watch TV, movies, or read at home -- so my options here are board games or housework or web-surfing. Or updating LJ for the third time today (wry grin).
