catling escape...

patgreene home from the hospital (she was held there overnight after chest pains), we took the kids over to the local coffee shop for brunch. Kevin and David had been rinsing out a bucket, after mopping the floor. We left, we returned... noticed that Kevin had left open the rear patio door. Both catlings are gone... they're about 8 months old, nearly full-grown, socialized cats who were originally feral kittens in out backyard, Chocolate and Penwiper.
Kevin was distraught, in tears. At this point, all we can do IMO is to leave the patio door slightly ajar and hope that they'll return when they get hungry or cold outside. No sign of them this afternoon.
[Update: both cats sighted hanging out at night in our backyard, together]
[Second update... Chocolate has returned and is happily purring inpatgreene's lap. Penwiper... ran indoors, then back out and is yowling occasionally outdoors... possibly in heat. Sigh.]
