poked, prodded, and scrambling
Jan. 8th, 2008 08:28 pmWhew. I had called Pascal today around 11am, intending to begin discussions about new research proposals (deadlines are upcoming in Feb. and March). Only to be rainchecked because he was busy trying to get his extended abstract (about 800 words, plus figures, references, etc.) submitted by 3pm for the Lunar and Planetary Sciences conference in Houston in March. Eek... I had something I'd intended to submit myself, regarding our drilling automation tests last October at JPL. But I had also lunch plans with
dawnd... on the other side of the bay, so there's no way I'd make it back in time.
So I called Dawn and delayed lunch, and dove in... pulling bits and pieces from other things I'd written about the tests, even from the original proposal. Spliced, rewriitten to make some kind of coherent whole, with figures and captions from one of my PowerPoint slides. I submitted it before 1pm. It was adequate, if probably not the best I've done in that format. But I made the deadline. I should have been more careful about tracking deadlines, but am glad that I didn't wait until tomorrow to call PL ;).
Otherwise... I reported to work before 8am for my annual NASA physical, at least the part requiring needles and test tubes. I was relieved that my weight and blood pressure were in the same vicinity as those from the past 2-3 years, as I'd feared worse. Later I took one of our cats to the vet to get her fixed... had to disassemble
patgreene's bed to get Penwiper out from underneath. And I did have a nice lunch with Dawn, even at 2pm. :)
