Back home

boing-boing-boing... it takes more flights (6) to get home from Devon Island than from Beacon Valley, Antarctica (although the latter requires longer flights).

The flight on a Beech 99 out of Resolute was a bit bumpy... the plane only held 11 people and luggage. Cambridge Bay... (look, green stuff on the ground!) Yellowknife (Look... DC-3s and... trees!) and then Edmonton. I was met there by [personal profile] handslive and [personal profile] purplejavatroll and went to dinner (look... not camp food! Chinese... green onion pancakes!). After dinner we stopped by [personal profile] eck's place and hung out for awhile during a lovely thunderstorm.

I stayed in the Varscona, my favorite Edmonton hotel directly on Whyte Avenue, the heart of the Victorian-era "old town" of Old Strathcona. Full of shops and restaurants and bookstores and bars, nowadays, it's a lively neighborhood and near [profile] therealjae's house. alt.polycon 6 was held in the same hotel... almost exactly four years ago, I was at that APC on my way home from Devon.

Yesterday, I left Edmonton and spent several hours in Seattle having a late lunch with [personal profile] who_is_she, whom I greatly appreciate. :) And arrived home around 9pm in time to see the kids off to bed and then go out to Max's Opera Cafe with Pat.

A sunny morning on Whyte Avenue... note that certain things are decriminalized in Canada ;) No, I didn't partake of their wares (need some rope, anyone?)...
