...all through the house, not a creature was stirring...

Gifts wrapped for the kids, Pat's just home from church, peppermint-bark-brownies are done, candy set out, stuffing ingredients prepared... it sounds like a lot of bother, perhaps, but it feels like one of the perks of parenting. Comfy and cuddly and loving and giving :).

Oh, I don't think it's a bother. The Christmas Eve quiet ritual of setting out presents, preparing breakfast ahead of time (I always do this eggy thing that can sit overnight and be popped in the oven when we get up to cook while we open gifts) and setting everything right for the morning is one of my favorite parts. It always leaves me feeling very peaceful and happy, preparatory to the somewhat more frenetic happiness of Christmas morning. Nice to bask in the glow of the lights and just enjoy the peace and quiet, knowing that magic has been made, before heading off to bed.
