runaround...

I was already running late, this morning... left Tyson's, turned the wrong way on Rt. 7, doubled back, sat creeping on the GW Parkway, finally got to Rosslyn 40 minutes late. Except... the meeting had been moved downtown to FAA HQS. I didn't get the change notice. Sigh. Jumped on the Metro and went to my old office building (600 Independence Ave). Was challenged by security, who ironically didn't recognize a NASA badge (this used to be the NASA Headquarters building until 1993).
Arrived over an hour late. Sitting now, warm room, watching an ATC data-sharing demonstration... Boeing is taking the quick-and-dirty route, using MS common objects and BizTalk. Assumes IE for user interfaces... but most of our ATC application prototypes are actually built in either Linux or Sun environments. It will probably all not work in 6 months when they try to integrate the applications into their framework. Then they'll blame NASA for not using proprietary standards like everyone else... sigh.
