local excitement...

(Note: must take up a collection to get one of these for [personal profile] dawnd once they're released... :)

This morning, the town was darkened... inside, by a power outage. A utility pole fire took out the supply lines running from the power plant to Resolute. Happened right in the middle of an IM conversation with [personal profile] tenacious_snail (who needed to be off to work anyway). Then a cleanup crew with a bulldozer managed to rupture the main gasoline feed line, spilling a few hundred gallons near the tank farm before it was contained. Fortunately, these two events were separated by a mile or so. But it was busy...

Not so for my crew, still here in Resolute. But we're planning to get two planes away in about two hours, and then two more around dinnertime.

yikes! That is a lot of excitement.

I must admit, I am now going to add "utility pole fire" to my list of "benevelent reasons to not hear from my sweeties". *kiss*. I did make my train, if that is any consolation.

I do love getting to hear the travel updates, but I am looking forward to field updates, too. Go otters go!

There is apparently still a gasoline pond on the ground near the tank farm... contained, but not guarded. We'll be hopefully out of here in two hours, so...

Communications are down at base camp... we *might* be up by tonight.

um, pardon my cluelessness, but is a tank farm where there are a lot of tanks of gasoline? And does "not guarded" mean that there is no one watching it to make sure it stays not a problem?

Yep. Some bozo driving by with a cigarette... (shakes head).

Going offline, headed to the runway in 15 min.
