Actually, the Jack O'lanterns on the sign were entirely appropriate. There are some traditions in which the Jack O'lantern (originally a carved turnip, rather than a pumpkin) is there to light the way for the souls of the dead, usually so they can find their way if they get lost on All Hallows Eve (when the veil between the worlds is thinnest).
