splash...

(groan)

Not a good start to the week... I decided to duck out quickly at lunch to a McDonald's nearby (that accepted plastic). Fine... except that upon attempting to set the food back down at my desk, I knocked the diet Coke over onto my (open) laptop. Having been through this already last summer in a tent in the Arctic (coffee, then), I hurriedly flipped it over, shook it and wiped the moisture off while holding it upside down. Then let it dry inverted for a couple of hours. It is now working again, except for the Bluetooth card. Whew.

Otherwise... we have two weeks to throw together a $50M proposal for a secondary-payload spacecraft that would piggyback on the LRO lunar orbiter launch, in 2+ years. Practically next month, as space missions go. After a two-hour telecon this afternoon, I'm responsible for mission operations trades and writing that area. Better than spilling diet Coke, certainly... will need to specify Coke/coffee-proof operations consoles...

They make plastic shields for keyboards that fit down over the keys and keep things out from between them. Might want to investigate them.

Hugs re: cola and too-soon deadlines, yay re: project!

At least it wasn't a regular Coke - the sugar would have made it worse (trust me on that one - BTDT). Glad it survived, other than the Bluetooth (is that a separate card or built in?).

Is that a short deadline for getting the proposal written, too?

I am glad that the "good news at work" is continuing.

Good thing it wasn't regular Coke. Sugar syrup does sticky things to keyboards.
