After a fender-bender occurred with the Mustang back on March 29, the mild impact caused the battery to shift and tug loose the main power cable coming from the alternator. Without means of recharge, the car only kept going until the battery was drained, a day or so later. The loose cable pieces also shorted the alternator and caused a tiny fire in some insulation.

My insurance company agreed to cover the fender repainting and broken lamp, but initially refused to cover the electrical work, claiming that it was an unrelated occurrence. This was silly, as jerking a large 1/4" thick copper bus out of an alternator clamp requires a significant amount of force and wasn't going to happen in normal driving. They stonewalled. I persevered, maintained low-key but steady pressure, and finally they caved and agreed to cover the repair, less some depreciation on the old alternator. Plus that means that the additional four rental car days are covered, altogether about $500 saved out of my pocket. :)

Now... back at work, I'm due for an audit at 11am today of last year's official purchases. I think I'm in good shape, but who knows...

yay for perseverance. And I'm glad that you not only saved the money, but are getting all the work done on your car.

(grin) Yes, Vincent is back out of the automotive crypt and back on the streets again. He even has the missing cruise control buttons replaced, and the horn now works.

Vincent, hmm? :-) Ok, I'd love to hear the story of how you named your car that...

My car is named Aquae, via much the same reasoning as my appellation of cyan_blue. My first car didn't have a name (that I can recall); my second car was named Angeline (for reasons I don't recall); and my third car was named Celestine, both to follow in the tradition of her predecessor and in honor of Rita Mae Brown's irrepressible character Celeste Chalfonte.

Congrats on asserting and persevering, and thank you for a *very* lovely afternoon...

Vincent is gothy black-on-black and keeps trying to "kill" himself (or so we felt in the first few months we owned the car, when it was repeatedly in the shop)... ;)
