In hopeless, silly anger at the weather... this is supposed to be the best time of year! With at least a few days of OK weather... I've pushed people to their limits, extended myself, brought people and things together from thousands of miles, in just a few months.... to sit quietly by and watch time expire while the wind and rain rage outside.

A large low-pressure area is meandering across the high Arctic... at the rate it was moving last night, it would have blown though and today would have been fine. Instead, it stalled. Just offshore. Now drifting slowly eastward, drawing the clouds onward... almost here. I can effing see sunshine in the distance! But meanwhile, wave after wave of rain rolls up in circulation from the south. If it hasn't improved by after dinner, we're hosed for today. Having had exactly a half day of useful weather (Monday pm) this week. With possibly a whole team's intense efforts, and $200K, down the drain.

And team members are already drifting away, before the week is even ended... a key support announced her intention to leave in September. VR leaves to go to school in 2 weeks. I wonder what, if anything, will be left to show of all of this by October. Gah. I'll probably slink home and no one will want to talk to me....

Brian you wrote "I'll probably slink home and no one will want to talk to me...."

I will want to talk with you when you get back. what your doing up there is so worth while.

I know your feeling discouraged right now. But keep in mind that you don't control the weather and you are doing the best job you know how to do. If you were not the best guy for the job they wouldn't have sent you.

Big hugs and warm regards Teri

I suppose staying there a little longer is just way too much of a logistical nightmare?

*hugs* and I wish you'd had better luck.

Rain, rain, go away!
Bad weather, scoot!

Sunshine, arrive!
Bring happy rays!

The weather is something that's out of your control, alas. It's sad that you've done so much work to get everything there and ready, but there's nothing that you can do about that. And I assure you that there are lots of people who will talk to you once you get back home.

Aargh, though, for sure. Nature is having no mercy for you this time around.

A standard greeting amongst astronomers is, as I'm sure many of you know, "Clear skies!"... whole projects can be trashed because funding doesn't allow for even statistically normal weather patterns :-(

So, huge amounts of empathy from this Tigron, and hugs offered if that'd help, and a little reminder of how many people out here think that you're doing the coolest research possible :-))))

And as for talking? Now, have you ever tried to get us to shut up?!?!?!?
