Tomorrow and Thursday NASA is holding "town hall meetings" with line managers to discuss the impacts of going to Force Protection Condition Charlie (current is Bravo, for those who know the ICAO alphabet). As I recall, Bravo = possible threat, Charlie = active hostilities. The only time that we went to Charlie at NASA-Ames during the Gulf War was when someone left a suspicious package outside the gates. And immediately after 9/11/01. At those times, the gates were locked and staff (in the latter case) were sent home.

So, who knows what the next month or so holds in store... my guess is that they may be expecting protests at the gates, rather than hypothetical terrorists. We could see the front gate decorations change from wreaths to picket signs in a month's time.

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Why do you expect people with picket signs? What's going on that I'm missing (sorry, haven't read news lately if it's mentioned there)?

If I am coming back to this situation, can I work from home? I'm clueless here...
