I love live music. Danceable, irrepressible live music even more so. If the music's source is one of my favorites, and I'm accompanied by friends... I want to shout. At tonight's Great Big Sea concert at Slim's that happened -- as well as singing and bouncing and dancing and half-shuffle, half jigs (not much floorspace, it was SRO).
In that kind of atmosphere, I let go of inhibitions, immersing myself in the music and the sea of people around me ;-). Those kinds of moments are treasured -- moments of temporarily cracking and tossing the shell of tight self-control (and second-guessing, and worrying about what others will think...) away and just being present and myself.
GBS was loose and fun and flippant -- it was the last night of their tour -- and ran through favorites and songs I'd never heard. I wished they'd played a few more things from "Turn" (I was hoping for "Jack Hinks" and "Old Brown's Daughter" *). Still... hearing them with the live fiddle and accordion on some numbers... (shiver). And making eye contact (we were in a group about six people deep from the stage). A T-shirt for
patgreene and a couple of CDs were gathered to take home. After three hours of dancing and moving and singing, I was floating. Wished it didn't have to end, and I could have gone to another club afterwards. Lots of spiffy endorphins *).
Thanks, heartfelt hugs and kisses to
rosefox for suggesting this outing, a month ago -- I'd have missed it otherwise.
mactavish,
deyo and
sinboy made it a fun group outing. After
patgreene cancelled, I was surprised and happy that
7patches called and took me up on the LJ offer (grin). We had a lovely evening there and meaningful conversation afterwards (fond sigh).
Thanks! (bounce)
For anyone interested, GBS's next scheduled appearance out here is August 30, together with Alison Krauss at the Strawberry Music Festival near Yosemite. Hmm...
