Sitting in a telecon...

Courtesy of [personal profile] rosefox... a new version of the MBTI test that allows intermediate or non-determinate inputs. My results haven't changed:

Your personality type is ENTP.

Extraverted (E) 50% Introverted (I) 50%
Intuitive (N) 91% Sensing (S) 9%
Thinking (T) 60% Feeling (F) 40%
Perceiving (P) 82% Judging (J) 18%

The "Feeling" vs. "Thinking" balance has shifted F-ward about 15 points over the past couple of years, which could reflect self-discovery and integration or simply that I'm growing fuzzy-headed with age... ;-).

I usually come up ENTP, but this time I came up ENFP. Interesting.

Maybe there's a slight F-bias in the test wording? I saw a similar effect...

Yeah, though I definitely wouldn't call you an E. You "read" as far more introverted than that. I'm usually pretty much dead center on E/I as well. I find that this is OK, but it can cause me to swing from one side to the other, depending on what I've gotten more of lately. If I've been home all week, I'll want to go out on the weekends. If I've been hosting a party ;^) I'll want to go hide for a while. Does it work that way for you?

And I'm betting that the shift in T/F is probably due to development, not fuzzy-headedness! :^)

Well... the E/I is a function of getting energy from groups, or desiring social interaction over alone time. I think that my "I" projection is a surface wariness and hesitancy... I was socially bolder as a young kid (say, until age 7), then had it (literally) beaten out of me until I was barely communicative and the only place I could live was inside myself. I've undone most of that, over the years, but lack social skills I would have normally gained.

Actually, I could be happy going out five or six times a week... I feel fidgetly and anxious without some degree of ongoing social contact. Sometimes I need alone-time , but usually that's to focus on getting specific work done. Or maybe escape from the kids, when they're being shrill or demanding ;-)

On balance, I'm probably slightly more of an extrovert -- but without many social skills. Preferring to be around people, but awkward in doing so...

Hmm. Interesting. Akien was physically abused as a child as well.

In the Introvert group last year, we determined that just about the worst possibility (from the standpoint of internal comfort) was to be as you have described: A Shy Extravert--driven to get energy and stimulation from others, but uncomfortable doing so.

You DO seem to be improving! ;^)

Thanks... that's reassuring, it has taken a while to gain self-assurance and rip loose old (figurative) scar tissue. I feel much happier with the social connections in which I exist now -- friends, communities, partners and colleagues -- than my relative isolation of five years ago or more.

So I have something else in common with Akien... interesting. Talking with him about it and sharing experiences (and recovery strategies) would be good...

"Shy Extravert" sounds about right... quiet and unassuming in groups, a bit hesitant -- but desperately wanting to be there and socialize. That low profile also means fewer party/event invitations, which wouldn't bother a true introvert (but leave me envious of others).

interesting...

Your personality type is ISFJ.
Introverted (I) 68% Extraverted (E) 32%
Sensing (S) 55% Intuitive (N) 45%
Feeling (F) 65% Thinking (T) 35%
Judging (J) 50% Perceiving (P) 50%

I've been INFP most other times I've taken tests without the "I'm in the middle" option.

The J vs. P is a dead heat, actually... although you seem to me to be a tad more J-like than I am. S/N surprises me in your case...

Why's that?

I thought you lived in your head more than in your body? That you were more trusting in your own gut feelings than in reaction to external stimuli? Just my theories, FWIw...

Eh, I'll give you the first, not so sure about the second. And you'll notice the scores are pretty close, too. This is one of the ones that changed this time around.
