Bored. borborbored.... kids to bed, [profile] patgreene's asleep, there's nothing to do. Library's closed, and the only person I know on AIM is busy with schoolwork. What do most "normal" people do on Saturday nights? Or single people without kids? All I can think of to do is work -- NASA or housework.

I wish I could be entertaining, but tonight's certainly a bad night for it.

Hey, I just looked at your userinfo and... 741 friends? Seven hundred forty one? ACK! Talk about information overload. Or... perhaps you're actually an alien collective, infiltrating humanity? Thank you very much, but we already have one of those. We like to call it "the administration".

Given that you're sick with a fever, yes... although bringing you things and nursing could be fun ;-).

When I'm bored I write pointless comments in other people's journals!

What I often do on Saturday and Sunday nights if the household doesn't have schedules, chat on IM, Read LJ, Write... Wonder if I can figure out someone to come steal me away. Only so far I haven't managed being stoled away.

I wound up having another high-stress time on IM, but it was hopefully productive.

Go out drinking, in the UK at least.

Alone? (curious look)

If there were a bar within walking distance, that would be worth considering... thanks.

Socially acceptable

I don't, myself, but a lot of people in the UK have `local' pub within walking distance where they are known on sight as a `regular' and can usually find someone to chat with. Another pattern (which, again, I don't actually do!) is to use public transport to get to a particularly popular pub or bar, read the evening paper, have a few drinks to relax with, and strike up some conversations.

Don't apologize -- my entertainment is not your responsibility -- but thanks for the thought anyway (smile).

Speaking as a single person without kids.

What I do evenings when I don't have a date or other specific plans:

Read, go for a walk, go to a movie, rent a video, watch videos I own, read LJ, answer email.

But, I admit, a lot of the time I do my NBP reading, which is work.

LJ and email are typically what I'd do... unless I had unread books around, perhaps. Going for a walk would have been useful, especially to de-stress. Thanks...

Actually, I thought about it (since you're local) but hesitated -- it seems, hmm, almost disrespectful to call someone Saturday night to ask. Even worse than being "the date of last resort"... I wouldn't want anyone to feel put out that I hadn't planned ahead and was therefore just taking for granted that they'd be available on essentially no notice...

knowing [livejournal.com profile] p3aches, i don't think you calling her that late would make her think she is the "date of last resort" or worse! calling on good friends who also might not have made plans could be lots of fun! tried it...it worked!

Okay, thanks for that perspective... I worry about such things.

And also usually assume that all of my friends are inherently better-organized socially than I and hence already have plans on a given weekend night, unless I see evidence to the contrary (i.e., they're posting or on AIM)...

Only that there was some kind of social event and/or playparty at someone's private home, and I'm not on their invite list? Given a separate comment by Rose, I think I know whom the hosts were...

True. And since she's now said it, I'll take it at face value and call if the same opportunity presents itself. Or I would if I had her telephone number.... (smile).

What I do when I'm alone at night:

Read
Do one of my crafts
Wake a sweetie up for snuggling and/or sex
Sleep
Watch television
Read some more
Meditate
Cook (it relaxes me)
Write in my journal
Work on my novel or poetry
Call my mom or a sweetie
Fire up a chat thing (I don't do this right now because I'm between residences and don't have a computer at the moment)

Cooking would be another good idea, if I had someone else to feed... it relaxes me as well, and there's an element of experimentation :-).

For what it's worth, I often cook for just myself. I either make a regular-sized recipe and freeze some, or I halve (or third or whatever) a recipe and make just enough for me. Or if it's something other family members would like, I just make the whole batch and let them know it's available.

Well, this past Saturday, I was gaming; we run 1st and 3rd Saturday nights as a general rule. On other weekends, chances are I have a date of some sort, either with my local SO or one of the others, if their down (the one in the next county north has been coming down about twice a month, and the others come down once in a while.) On the rare Saturday where I'm in town (not at a con or otherwise travelling) and don't have other plans, I watch DVDs or read. I generally knit, tat, or crochet while watching movies. Generally, those are welcome breaks; I'm verging on overbooked, really. If there's something I want to see in the theaters, and I don't have plans to see it with someone else, I might go out.
