Second birthday ;-)

This evening patgreene and the kids celebrated my birthday, nearly two weeks late. I had been a bit down, having received no cards or notes from my parents or siblings for the first time. But I cheered up quickly... Pat made an intense chocolate cake, too rich for Kevin. Seven 71% large Valrhona bars went into the ganache frosting.



Here's the cake, fully lit (the frosting began to melt from the heat ).



It was just immediate family, not a social event. I got two new dress shirts, and a belt from Pat, new micro-headphones and a game likewise, the RHPS soundtrack from David and Kevin, a combination key chain/toolset from SD at work, and Pink's "Missundaztood" album from James.

(Oddly, something about the background also makes it look like you and the table were Photoshopped in over the background. =))

You've seen the setting (so know otherwise), but it does look kind of detached from the background... maybe an effect of those large Eichler glass walls behind me, flattening the background scene.
