I have such great people in my life. (fond smile) And the better I get to know them, the more they're appreciated.

Today was Kevin's birthday... we had presents and cake tonight, with a party for other 6-8 year olds at Chuck-E-Cheese's in Redwood City on Saturday.

Today was long and intense, work-wise... another long telecon, then setup, then a Preliminary Design Review, then an air traffic project meeting, then ferrying [personal profile] hopeforyou to her repair shop, then two more hours dealing with plans to counter another NASA center's attempt to grab our air traffic project and its funding, a brief golden chat with someone lovely, then home to family and birthday cake. Followed by more NASA work this evening at home, after the kids and [profile] patgreene were in bed.

The design review was kind of appealing... both of the participants work for me, and neither had done this kind of review before, and both were a bit nervous and insecure about their work. They were afraid that they would be judged and found wanting. A bit nervous about how things would happen. It was... endearing. Made me think fondly back to when I was standing up there nervously for the first time. On my part, I had seen their respective material yesterday, knew that their work was good (further along than most of the project), and was confident in their capabilities. The only thing that I thought could have held them back would have been their own tremulousness and self-doubt. And once it was going, that vanished. Both of them (SD and [personal profile] hopeforyou) literally got gold stars handed to them afterwards by the principal investigator. Yay!

Afterwards, the news broke about folks at NASA-Glenn trying to grab most of our TSWIM air traffic information management project... looks like I'm going to Ohio in two weeks, after all. Cleveland, in August... sigh. Too bad it isn't Dayton, at least then maybe I could meet [profile] cathouse_blues.

And I'm not going to Germany in late September, but my travel to southern Spain has been delayed and extended (now the first two weeks in October). At least my air-freighted gear and equipment from Devon Island arrived today.

And Kevin was very happy today :-). Happy golden birthday, dear son!

Cleveland is a nice place, actually, and I miss it. Do you know [livejournal.com profile] swy1974, by any chance?

No, actually haven't heard of them. Are they friends of [personal profile] rmjwell?

I don't think so. Sarah is the demi-urge behind the Northeast Ohio Poly network, and does lots of bi and other activism, too, and she and [livejournal.com profile] lunatickle live in Cleveland, among others. I don't think she's ever been on alt.poly, though, which would explain why you haven't met her.
