Thanks...

For the hugs and friendship. Drama has lessened, and Pat and I are speaking again. Flowers didn't hurt, nor did the news that our local daily (the San Jose Mercury) is printing something of hers on Sunday.

Otherwise...

I sent various small things today to all of the people with whom I consider myself to be in capital-R Relationships, using a web florist. Julie got a kit with candles, massage oils, incense and such. With a card asking her to relax, slow down, and please enjoy these with Greg (her spouse) and Dave (OSO). Perfectly reasonable, in a poly Valentine sense.

Except... that my card accompanied an identical package, sent to someone named Monica. Julie got Monica's card from Monica's hubby Nicholas. And Nicholas has been apparently thrown out of his house by Monica, who is apparently monogamous, jealous and mistrusting. Julie has been called by increasingly-panicked representatives of the web florist six times today. She's had to slowly explain poly relationships to them "yes, it *is* just like you think, except we're OK with that and it doesn't involve Monica or Nicholas. In any way." I've provided my telephone here in Pasadena in case Monica wants independent verification... one card switch, and a marriage blows up?

(shaking head)

DUDE! That whole card switch is just TOO funny! I'm dying over here. ROTFLMAO

I think you ought to post that whole scenario to polyamory. OMFG!

OTOH, it is pretty depressing if the card switch actually does end a marriage...whoops. But then...really...if she can't grok the web florist screwed up, then would *I* want to stay with her?

Done. The story is posted over there now.

I want to laugh and wince at the same time... I feel bad for this guy Nicholas, but (as you said) if she's that untrusting and fearful maybe he's better off away from her. But I *really* feel sorry for their kids. Sigh...

Wait. This woman got a card, supposedly from her husband, that says "Enjoy this with the other people you're involved with", and she throws him out, because she thinks he's cheating?!

How bizarre.

I hope it's resolved cleanly and soon. And I'm glad things are better with Pat.

Weird... but my understanding is that she thinks that her husband switched the cards accidentally, *not* the florist... hence "Julie" is the revealed Other Woman (and one with her own husband and another lover, at that!).

This is utterly hilarious, Brian. Monofolk can be so funny. ;-)

[Expel tea through nose while going *snrch*]

Well, not really, but almost. I am drinking tea, I did go *snrch* and laughed out loud.

Sounds like a plot line for a piece-of-fluff movie. I expect Monica and Nicholas will work it out. Wouldn't it be funny if it led them to try poly though?

Oh. My. Ghod. I mean, I kind of feel bad for them... but that's just too frikin' hilarious. Wow. It's like a sitcom episode. :D

I wonder if those are the same people I used last year, who instead of sending Chris a dozen purple roses sent him a gladiolus arrangement with a card from "Jeremy". =)

These folks were 1800flowers.com. They also managed to ship a set of tulips to a different sweetie a day late... grrr.

I ordered from givingnature.com, but that site seems to redirect to 1800flowers now. Heh. I'm shocked. =) Not only was the arrangement wrong, but they managed to get it here a day late too.

Oh... my....

I'm not sure whether to burst into uncontrollable giggles, cringe in sympathy for Nicholas (NOT Monica!), or both.

I guess I have an observation here: Monogamous people are funny. *grins*

So are poly people, now that I think of it.

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2002-02-16 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
My first responses (after I could control my laughter) was "Monica's an idiot" and "I feel *really* sorry for their kids" (figuring that Nicholas might actually be better off without Monica).

Well, I'm glad you and Pat are speaking again.

As far as the other stuff, I won't EVEN comment! :)
