Eleven years ago I became a parent... James's birthday was today. Also on a Tuesday. It is by far the biggest change and ongoing influence on my life. Intensely demanding, profoundly rewarding.
Sometimes the logistics are unpleasant, though... as I just spent 45 minutes cleaning up after David woke up vomiting. All over the bed (shared with Kevin), the floor, and into a box containing toys and Pokemon cards. Pat slept through.
On the other hand, James is coming into his own in several areas. It is hard to believe sometimes... as though he is succeeding in spite of, rather than with the support of his parents. He reads at a high-school-senior level, is one of the best in his class in math and science, is a stand up comedian and loves the spotlight, was elected student body vice-president and last week easily passed the gifted-and-talented program entrance exam. Aced it, actually... it is hard to express how amazed and proud I am of him. (big grin) Cross my fingers and pray that he can stay in a healthy, nurturing and supportive environment. And weather puberty...
