After a completely dysfunctional gathering of air traffic control and IT folks yesterday in Arlington... the FAA is in the process of making exactly the same incrementalist architectural mistakes that have given us the heavily stovepiped, piecewise-incompatible architecture of today's ATC system. Sigh. True to institutional form... just as NASA is, in its different ways. And then pressure from JL, and then [profile] patgreene's accident.... by the end of the day my back was knotted and I was full of adrenaline.

And yes, one of my schools (Georgia Tech) had its basketball team playing in the NCAA final last night, but the last thing I needed was more stress from watching that. Especially considering the final score :-(. An open virtual shoulder and timely advice from [personal profile] dawnd, yesterday evening... helped me de-stress as well as have a much better time, later on in the evening :).

I badly needed company. And some kind of casual touch or hugging, which is important to me to unwind and relax in a given setting. Fortunately, I had a date with [personal profile] geekchick, and armed with Dawn's advice I actually dared to ask for what I wanted. And it was a good outing... I waited in the Ritz bar for her for awhile and listened to a pretty good jazz pianist, sipping an apple "martini"... she found me, we talked, we both unfroze, we then went to a nearby Thai restaurant that Cathy likes and had IMO the most open conversation we'd had in at least a couple of months. And some hugs... and even rubbing a couple of knots in my back before she dropped me back at the hotel area. I think it helped to ask directly :). Both of us seemed happier by the time we parted.

Today... return home from Washington.

I stood by for an earlier flight from Washington, today... which gave me a nice layover in Minneapolis with Nancy. Who, after hearing how tense I was yesterday, surprised me by giving me a full body massage... mmm. It was only the second time I'd had one (also from her, a couple of years ago). Afterward, I was at peace and rather blissful and a bit oily and drank lots of water :). There were lots of small knots and aches that I didn't realize I had. I should do this more often... massage, not the stress.

Otherwise, the flights were fine (both upgraded) and I got home about an hour ago.
