jay: (not understood)
I'm not sure why I'm down, specifically, but I'm lacking energy or motivation or much way to see future positive outcomes, today. Lots of impulse to run away and hide in my room, or find some project. Missed church today... James and [profile] patgreene overslept, but I still could have dragged myself along without the rest of the family, and didn't. This afternoon... need to buy groceries, take Kevin to a birthday party, maybe go to a neighborhood end-of-summer ice cream social, scheduled date with [personal profile] tenacious_snail. I doubt I'll be much company, tonight.

Thursday night I finished the paper and uploaded it at 8:30pm, with a half-hour to spare. I went to couples alone Thursday night -- [profile] patgreene had fallen asleep, she's had lots of insomnia lately, including Wednesday night. Having worked hard all week, I wasn't very productive Friday and took time off for lunch with [personal profile] dangerpudding and later coffee with [personal profile] p3aches. W&S Friday night was crowded and actually quite pleasant. James has been recovering well, and he went along.

Yesterday... I drove early to Oakland to put in absentee auction bids on lots of marble, hoping to get cheap materials to remodel my bathrooms a year hence. I don't know if I won anything. Then I went back and prepared for a poly-family picnic that I was officially co-hosting along with [personal profile] tenacious_snail, [personal profile] cyan_blue and [personal profile] p3aches. Unfortunately... we'd all been having stressful or difficult weeks, so not much got done in advance preparation. At noon, the official start time, we had no charcoal, no BBQ tools, and nothing edible other than buns and condiments (chips and fruit had been left off of the list). We were saved by [profile] patgreene's willingness to make several shopping runs while we tried to keep things going at Rengstorff Park. Despite the annual gospel multi-church picnic next to ours, who brought amplified ethnic Christian music and a wandering preacher with a microphone that finally drove away [personal profile] inflectionpoint for awhile. [personal profile] p3aches and [profile] kokoro43 turned up around 1:20pm... Les was upset at the delay in plans, a loud scene ensued... at that point, I was ready to bail out and leave for the day myself.

But it got better... charcoal arrived and the grill started, tools and grillable items arrived, the preacher wandered elsewhere and Scott asked them to lower the volume, and my own low blood sugar was finally alleviated by lunch around 3pm. By 4pm, we peaked with 34 people there (most arrived after 2pm) and had a reasonable-sized gathering until time to clean up at 7pm. Weather was pleasant, tempers cooled and bounced back, and there was eventually plenty to eat and drink. [personal profile] cyan_blue took some of the kids to find geocaches elsewhere in the park... the late afternoon and early evening was quite pleasant.

And yesterday night, [profile] patgreene demonstrated her trivia prowess in a Sunnyvale bar over dinner, beating everyone else there and placing 5th nationally in an online trivia game...
