Off to San Diego...

Waves at nolly and others... I'm serving on a proposal review panel all week in San Diego, downtown near the harbor. Since work covers my rental car and hotel, and the kids are off this week, we thought we'd bring them along for a vacation.

Fine... but then a friend at church was moving this weekend, and needed someone to drive a 26' U-Haul one way to Hemet, CA. I volunteered... patgreene concurred, as she would have to drive the kids and herself separately one-way.

So... we're off. Hope that the truck doesn't give me too much trouble over the Grapevine, it is supposed to be rainy and possibly stormy.

155 miles... 280 to go, including the most difficult stretch. But the truck wasn't too bad over Pacheco Pass... now at Harris Ranch for brunch. Where Geri gallantly joined us for dinner, last trip, despite it being something like anathema for a vegetarian :)

Deed done

460 miles... Truck safely delivered, with its 26000 lbs of household furnishings. Mountains were challenging, holding the load steady. geekchick's birthday present to me (iPod shuffle) plus an FM transmitter was invaluable today in keeping me alert, given only a simple radio in the truck.

Now in Temecula, finishing dinner with patgreene and the kids. Another hour, then check-in and then I have 3 hours of proposal reviews tonight...

[update: checked in, kids to bed, working on proposals. They are providing breakfast and lunch, I'll barely leave the hotel between now and Friday...]
