Birthday, baths, bank statements
Apr. 2nd, 2007 10:13 amThis weekend was low-key, focussed on bathing fixtures and a birthday.
cyan_blue came by for lunch Friday, stayed in the area while I went back to work, beaded with
patgreene and then kept me and the kids company Friday night while Pat went out to visit Good Heavens.
Saturday was David's birthday -- he turned 13. He took it as a sign that he should start acting less "kid-like", which is probably a good thing. He and Kevin went to LaserQuest with
patgreene while I baked a cake. He got games, a book, and a new bicycle and accessories, and can now stay up 30 minutes later (9pm) on school nights.
tenacious_snail and
cyan_blue both joined the rest of us for cake and ice cream on Saturday night.
James was at his final percussion ensemble competition of the season... it has been meeting several afternoons per week, four hours after school, and James's GPA for the 3rd quarter fell a half-point. Without us even discussing it, on his own he called and quit both of his garage bands, and would have quit the ensemble if it wasn't nearly done. Still... it was hard to see the disappointment on his face.
Fixture-wise... I spent much of Saturday putting up new plastic siding in the master bathroom (Pat's bathroom), covering the green metal tiles there. Enough moisture had penetrated over the years that the 1/4" plywood under the tiles had crumbled in places and tiles were popping off regularly. So I attached polystyrene sheets to reinforce the sagging wall and for a new water barrier in her shower. And cleaned and replaced a valve and fixtures and the shower head and faucet, then sealed everything. It looks *much* better, even though it is just a temporary patch until I can put up the marble walls.
And Sunday afternoon Pat and I drove out to the East Bay and looked at a couple of hot tubs... one I'd get, if I could figure out a way to get it here from Fairfield. Or anyone that could meet me in Fairfield to help put it on a truck. Les kindly took D&K to a movie while Pat and I had our Sunday afternoon drive.
And then... taxes. I was up until 2am going through bank statements and checks, itemizing our medical and charitable and work-related costs. At least we won't have to file a Schedule C this year...
