Jul. 9th, 2007 04:11 pmToday is the first surgery this week in my immediate family... I'm waiting at Stanford Hospital, James is now in recovery and I'm told that he's doing OK. Today's procedure was to place three implants in his upper jaw, to replace the teeth missing since he was struck by an automobile in 1997. It follows the bone grafting that was done last August. If all goes well (the center implant was a bit soft or wobbly, and may need a 2nd try later), he will get crowns in November and no more braces or bridge.
I'm still a bit annoyed at the hospital notification service... they are supposed to tell us what time surgery is scheduled, by the day before. They didn't... or rather, called
patgreene's cell and did not leave a message. And we were given an outdated information packet with the wrong number to call (disconnected) and directions to the old outpatient surgery location (moved in February...). So without any information, all we could do was to assume he was in the first wave of intakes at 7am. So we got up, dressed, and were about to head out at 6:30am when they called... he was scheduled for 2pm. Sigh. Back to bed for awhile...
cyan_blue stayed overnight and has been a gem, taking the kids out with me last night geocaching, and kid-wrangling today while Pat and I have been at the hospital with James. And
tenacious_snail is going to play tag-team soon, as Geri heads to work and Les gets off work. I feel supported and loved. :)
