From a different conversation...

Saddam may be a trophy, but personally I don't see his capture as justifying spending $120B and thousands of civilian and military lives in Iraq... in five years, the place will probably be a despotic dictatorship again, just with a different despot. We've spent lives and money to settle what amounts to a family feud, IMO. There were probably never any weapons of mass destruction, hence nothing that justified a pre-emptive war.

If these opinions of mine are an insurmountable obstacle to anyone remaining friends with me, well, you've been duly informed...

I agree with your assessment of the situation in general, Brian. If it loses me pals, oh well. I hate to think of what this is going to do to the Democratic chances of getting Bush ousted - funny how we caught him just as Shrub's approval ratings were dipping.

Better that it happen before the presidential election cycle hits full swing... it would have been a bigger boost to Shrub et al. in nine months.
