A colleague has pointed out recent Martian spectral results from the Mars Express spacecraft that indicate the presence of methane in the Martian atmosphere... whether due to cometary fragments, life, or as a side effect of past volcanism. See http://mainlymartian.blogs.com/ for more.

Thanks for posting this link. Good info and the author is honest about what is speculation and what is fact.

I did rather find the part about the Beagle's lithobraking humorous, in a sad way.
