Indirectly...

I'm feeling better now, despite lots of angst-ridden e-mail exchange with a certain sweetie.
At work, I spent three hours today in meetings trying to plan our Arctic field experiment... do we put the geologists in spacesuits, voice vs. audio communications, that kind of thing. Funding arrived last Friday. And I'm psyched because I'll get to put the science direction team (simulated terrestrial or at an Earth-Mars libration point) in a total-immersion walk-in VR facilitythat I originally helped create for use in testing air traffic software. Career serendipity, of a sort (grin). With 360-degree landscapes, projected from the "rover" (probably an ATV with cameras, wireless communications gear and a grad student to follow instructions)..
And I chaperoned a 2nd-grade class field trip to visit Lockheed's space museum in Sunnyvale. That was fun, and NASA pays me to do it as long as it is vaguely math- or science-related.

angilong, I realized that a big part of my problem with J (as well as with Pat) boils down to my indirect communication style...

indirect communication style?!

Um. Wow. Either you talk very, very differently with your partners than you do with me, or I'd hate to see 'direct' in your world. ;-)

Date: 2002-04-03 02:14 pm (UTC)In person, in a purely social context, I'm different -- more introverted, subdued and indirect. Remember the time at alt.polycon 6, when my hotel room was flooded and I was left with nowhere to sleep (after just flying in from Resolute)? Rather than ask to stay over with someone, I sat around the con suite and hoped that someone would eventually take pity on me... that's closer to my home behavior. :-)
