This particular bill was introduced by liberal Democrats -- it was sponsored by Charles Rangel of New York -- to make a political point about the war in Iraq, along the lines of "would you still be fighting if your son or daughter could be drafted and sent off?". All reasonable commentary I've read says it stands little chance of passage.

even if it does stand little chance at passage...I was grateful for the opportunity to voice my opinion. I just sent e-mail to my reps stating my point of view on the subject. Its when we say/do nothing that laws like that have even a little bit better chance of being passed.
