impulsivity

One of my problems is that my impulse control seems to be too binary... I seem to be either wide-open to suggestion, or completely repressed, tightly controlled. A P/J bit-flip... to extremes. Either roaring at 85, weaving through traffic like a madman, or staidly sitting in place at 60 in a slow lane. Suddenly disappearing to Jamaica, or quietly sitting in the corner at parties. Life would be smoother and less drama-prone if I could develop a "medium" speed, something with a degree of dynamism with still some boundaries and constraints...

As we talked about last night, I think you're right about this. Having some setting between "completely on" and "completely off" would be a very good thing; you need a dimmer switch for your impulse control. ;) I'm not sure how to suggest working on this though, unless you start with smaller things and practice trying for the middle ground.

Partly I have to overcome the lingering impression that the middle ground is boring... give myself permission to not push to extremes, not seek attention or to stand out by occupying either edge. And to work on *asking* for what I want early-on instead of waiting until things are so pent-up...

Are you able to rheostat like that on other things?

Actually, I can adjust my driving style to fit traffic conditions... hmm. Thanks.

I suspect that you figured that one out some time ago, given a comment that you made after Akien's birthday.

Wow, I can so relate to that on a very personal level. **Hugs**

Hugs are appreciated :).
