Resolute isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here --T-shirt at terminal gift shop.
The weather is slowly improving... it is similar to the retreat of the morning marine-layer fog in the Bay Area. In a couple of hours I should be enroute to Devon Island, along with HC, two Honeybee guys and our drill.
We were up early for a weather and flight briefing, went over en masse to Polar Shelf (who stages and dispatches Twin Otters into remote locations) and were told to come back after 3pm.
On the way back, we did the usual sights of "Rez"... two plane crashes, the Thule aboriginal site, the harbor, the Co-op store and post office. Kids on bikes. Yu-Gi-Oh in the Co-op. Cans of Coke cost $3 here, each ;-) I spent the afternoon loading GPS tracking software on my laptop, and discovered that I left the OS 9.2 CD at home.
Some photos:
"Hey, I was only a little bit short of the runway!"

Looking from downtown Resolute up to the lone church (Anglican) with the town name in both scripts on the hills in the background:

I'm currently in the Co-op Hotel, which has 9 rooms, a meeting room with Internet access and a dining room downstairs. This picture shows it (2-story bldg) and down to the harbor (where the bear was, this morning).

Weirdly, a third of the biscuits (cookies) on the Co-op store shelf were from a Spanish manufacturer (Alcala) near Madrid... (thinks of
hopeforyou).

Date: 2004-07-23 09:56 pm (UTC)A caption for the top picture: On takeoff, Sven and Olie find that maybe they loaded just a bit too much beer in the cargo hold.
You are on the top of my list of Really Cool People I Know (and I know some of the Coolest People).
