brain-frozen

Is how I felt tonight at bi coffee... barely able to put coherent sentences together. Of course, only getting 3 hours of sleep last night probably didn't help... and when I'm around certain people who were there tonight, I have to work at not going all deer-in-the-headlights-unable-to move anyway...
So, I managed to sit next to
cjsmith for a half hour without realizing it, while droning on about metal alloys and vague relationship angst until
sinboy wandered off and poor
clairaide was looking at her dress and the coffee table. Then wandering around, discovering
gs and
cjsmith just as they were leaving ( they looked uneasy), then stepping on
redhawke's foot while talking to a guy whose name I didn't catch. Capping the evening off by misinterpreting
hopeforyou in the worst possible way and probably offending her. At least I left
joedecker mercifully alone, I'd have probably spilled coffee on him. And I managed to interact with
the_ogre without being silly, boring or klutzy. I think...
(shaking head) what a half-hour... I should have skipped the event. Aargh. Anyone that saw me there would do me a service by hitting their own mental "erase" button and forgetting that I put in an appearance.
This followed an evening at Lori's, waiting in vain for her ex-husband to come by and pick up his things (we were there to give Lori companionship-under-stress).
And the finishing touch... looking down, I just noticed that my fly has been unzipped all evening. Not that that is necessarily bad at bi coffee (wry smile)... I just keep expecting to wake up. Instead, I'm going to bed...

Didn't do anything that offended me. I was hoping you'd stay around longer...and FWIW, I didn't notice you doing anything wrong to offend anyone else. Stepping on one's foot? An accident. Forgivable. Talking about metal alloys? Hey, I can go on for a long time about basic usability testing, gems and minerals, and art...We're geeks, for pete's sake...that's what we do. =)
*hugs*

I was hoping you'd stay around longer
Me too, actually, since there were a couple of topics I wanted to discuss with you, and it had been over a week. But Pat has been coordinating outside community volunteers for "VIP Reading Day" at our local school, was increasingly frantic due to cancellations, and needed someone there. BTW, the event was a success today :-).

Date: 2002-04-25 12:08 am (UTC)Spot-on, that's nicely put.
One... feh
Methinks that there was a story, waiting to be let out... I'll have to remember to ask you someday (smile).
I wish I could have been there
I wish you could have been there too, not to rescue me from fuzzy-headedness but because I'd like to meet you someday ;-).
Me too
Date: 2002-04-24 08:58 am (UTC)It was a strange night.

Date: 2002-04-25 01:00 am (UTC)My pride is going to get me in trouble... hell it already has.
BTW, are you on any chat clients?

Date: 2002-04-24 09:16 am (UTC)(chuckle) Yeah, I was pretty focused on the conversation I was having, too.
discovering gs and cjsmith just as they were leaving (they looked uneasy)
NOT your fault. I just had to leave, and on my way out the door (already a little later than I should've been) I realized who you were and had to try to figure out how to balance time versus talking. Oops. My bad. (at least, "My awkwardness"!)
looking down, I just noticed that my fly has been unzipped all evening. Not that that is necessarily bad at bi coffee (wry smile)...
(grin) And no one took it as an invitation? Sheesh, we're falling down on the job! :-)

Date: 2002-04-25 12:17 am (UTC)NOT your bad, either! Just random circumstances... although it was interesting to see you and Gordon walking across, turning around before leaving and *click* shock of recognition (at least on my part). Followed by mutual awkwardness in trying to cover 15 minutes' worth of conversation in 45 sec. or so... (chuckle).
Sheesh, we're falling down on the job!
Hee! yes, that bit was a tad ironic.
BTW, why do you call yourself "short"? (slightly perplexed look)

Date: 2002-05-01 10:34 am (UTC)Because I can't reach the rudder pedals on most mass-produced aircraft. Because I can't see over office cubicle walls, as my coworkers can. Because my car seat belt sits along my neck, and the little warning sign says that if the seat belt does that, "the child should be placed in the rear seat". A multitude of reasons...
Or it could simply be that the world is designed by and for men, but if I said THAT, I'd sound like a feminist.

Date: 2002-05-02 08:46 am (UTC)Well, okay, I have to fiddle with the seat myself, and I'm average-height (5'9") for males. Sometimes it seems like the seat-controls layouts were designed for six-footers...

Maybe it is your specific car? (hands upturned) When I saw you at coffee 10 days ago, one of the reasons that I didn't recognize you at first was that I was looking for someone shorter (smile) ... you seem to be 5'3" or 5'4", unless you were wearing heels (?).
but if I said THAT, I'd sound like a feminist
and hence have your opinions invalidated by lots of folks saying, "oh, that's just politically correctness..." even when you're right.
